“Love and do what thou wilt.” ~ Saint Augustine
Take a moment and PAUSE. Notice your breathing, see your thoughts and thinking, set aside your judgments, expectations, and intellect. Place your awareness within your heart. Let the edges dissolve. Be still and know.
“Every morning put your mind into your heart and stand in the presence of God all day long.” ~ An anonymous monk of the Eastern Orthodox Church
Offering our awareness to God is simple but we are easily distracted. The importance of family, work, and society encourages our ego, and we forget our truth, our lineage, our common inheritance as children of God.
Our Whispering Heart provides pathways to grow our capacity to love unconditionally, to forgive ourselves and others, to be compassionate and understanding, and hopeful, to find peace and serenity when faced with confusion or calamity. Our Whispering Heart provides a spiritual oasis refreshing our attitude and inspiring our spiritual awareness. The path is of the Heart. Intellectual ideas are interesting, but no longer relevant.
Experience has proven, over and over that
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” ~ Albert Einstein
Spirituality offers a solution. It shifts our perception, it transforms our attitude and softens our heart. Life is our spiritual path. Being human, we live with emotions, feelings, and misperceptions. There is a power of the universe, superior to ourselves that will care for and comfort us. It is beyond the realm of phenomena. It is available within each of us. We will call that power God. God is loving, caring, compassionate, forgiving, and understanding.
Many of us bring prejudice against God. If that’s your case replace the word God with the word Love (1 John 4:8 and 4:16). Become willing to set aside everything you think you know about God and Love so that you may be open to a new experience, a new way of perceiving, and a new outlook on life.
Prayer is the natural language of the soul. Prayers are universal. Prayers have power. Prayer is what God does in us. Our part in prayer has much more to do with willingness and consent than initiative. That consent is merely saying yes to God’s invitation to be in a relationship. After all,
“Prayer is, at root, simply paying attention to God” ~ The Fulfillment of All Desire, Dr. Ralph Martin
You are the pray-er and prayer. Pray with humility and gratitude. Pray often. Within the stillness of your heart choose a prayer and recite it over and over for many days.
A most beautiful gift to ourselves is discernment, which springs forth from the seed of detached awareness. Closely linked to awareness is perception, which is our assignment of meaning to the context of the experience. The jump into experience gives birth to time, to judgment, to fear, and guilt any of which distract our awareness from the safety of the present moment into the drama of the past and future.
So take just a moment to be still, PAUSE and reflect. Notice to what have you have given your awareness? What is it that has your attention? Is your perception focusing on fear, guilt, resentment, expectation? Is the focus on the past or the future? Look a bit deeper and discern the motive. Accept whatever arises without judgment. Our creator, a loving God, gives us the freedom to direct our awareness to our desire. Choose your desire carefully.
The first step is cultivating awareness mindfully. It will take a great deal of courage to see past the illusions of misperceptions and conditioned beliefs that have been the foundation of our perceptions. Notice events will conspire to encourage us to release our limiting ideas and our pre-justices. We will create new possibilities. Throughout this entire process, God gently cares for each of us.

The power of grace and the abundance of God’s unconditional love touch our body, mind, and spirit. Our experience demonstrates God will guide us through our daily affairs if we stay close and carefully discern the voice of the ego from the Voice of God.

As we accept God’s grace, we allow ourselves to be unconditionally loved. Our perception shifts. All of life becomes an opportunity to deepen our relationship with God. Our heart becomes a conduit for acceptance, forgiveness, compassion, and wholeness. Our fears are released and replaced with faith. We are in a relationship with God; we become aware of a Truth beyond description. We come to know a place of serenity and of freedom beyond the limitations of words and the intellect. God’s grace awakens us to live our truth; to live in love.
To know God, we offer our awareness. We step out of our thoughts and thinking into a place without judgment, the source of all experience, the timeless gap between the past and the future, and into the stillness between our thoughts. It is here, it is now, and it is in the present moment that we are aware of our intimate relationship with God.
What do we desire? PAUSE, reflect, and discern. Are our motives in alignment with our desires? We are confused without knowing it. Trapped in our fears, our guilt and our self-seeking we forget God. Today is a new day. We can choose again. Let the Holy Spirit take your hand and send a guiding voice. Choose to give your awareness to the loving God within. Opening your awareness to God is a prayer.
These meditations strengthen my ability to open my spiritual eyes, ears, and heart to that which God would have me see, hear and feel; thus improving my ability to consciously awaken to the moments that really matter in my life and my interactions. Thanks for guiding and sharing, David.
Your gently shared wisdom has helped me understand and accept the major challenges I’ve been struggling with. The guided meditation has helped me heal old wounds, connect with my heart’s desires, and feel hopeful about the future. Throughout I felt safe, supported, and cared for – thank you for helping me move further into peace, surrender, and love.
Imagine living in the present companionship of a loving and compassionate God. Everything comes into relationship with divine love and abundance; life becomes prayer. The pray-er and prayer become one. Good news! God provides everything we need to do this. Our part is to open our heart and be willing to let go of the bondage of our personal history. The healing power of grace will do the rest. Prayer becomes the container for a holistic and transformative undoing of our blocks to openness to God.
“Our job is to allow our self to be loved and then to hold others in love that passes on to them what we have received from God. This is a life of prayer” ~ Opening to God, David G. Brenner
Opening ourselves to God is personal and universal. The great spiritual traditions offer a vast richness of prayerful dimensions, each with a slight difference of flavor. Choose with heart. Adjust as needed. Turn to God with whatever openness and trust is available and allow God’s love to flow into your heart. As we turn to God divine love reveals the obstacles in our depths that block our openness to God. If we are willing to release these obstacles, slowly they are transformed by Grace. As grace begins to seep into those places of brokenness, we begin to experience the fullness of life that exists in God.
The page, Prayer ~ Opening our self to God, explores the depths and dimensions of prayer. Tips and techniques are offered to cultivate a prayerful life.
Moment to moment life offers opportunities to PAUSE and return our awareness to God. Our attitude and approach are choices, often obscured by victimhood and resentment. Our point-of-view becomes the reflection of our thoughts and emotions. A new perspective has the potential to change everything. Changing our mind, our attitude, and our perception takes but an instant.
So often we can be stuck in the insanity of negative feelings, emotions, and obsessions. With a change of perspective, our brokenness becomes an opportunity to deepen our relationship with God. Nothing can obstruct the healing power of surrender and opening to grace.
Our stories describe how our attitude has been transformed, as if by a miracle, when we PAUSE and open to God’s unconditional love, compassion, and joy. As we come to experience and know God’s love, we can love ourselves and each other without condition. With love’s presence, we find acceptance and forgiveness. We realize we are worthy, loveable and complete, just as we are. The healing power of grace is limitless.
The page, Our Stories of Hope and Inspiration, offers a collection of personal stories. Each story describes a journey of transformation; each imparts a touch of grace. We encourage you to share your story too. We will learn from each other as we share our stories. Most important, telling our story is an opportunity to drop the bondage of our past. We find freedom as we detach and laugh at the insanity of our old ideas.
We are creatures of habit. Change takes courage and repetition. Progress, not perfection is the way. This website is an offering to everyone with a desire to deepen their relationship with God. This website shares the abundance of Love’s presence. Subscribing to our mailing list provides a gift of hope and inspiration.
